The new Data Matrix code reader Software: VC Smart Reader
With the new Data Matrix reading Software nothing is impossible
We would like to introduces the newly developed Data Matrix code reading
software. Combined with an intelligent camera, the VC Smart Reader enables quick
and reliable identification of 2D codes. The VC Smart Reader software has been optimized for use with VCOptimum, VCProfessional, VC Board Cam and VisiCube camera types.
The special features of the VC Smart Reader Software:
- 360 degrees rotation
- Fast algorithm detects and reads codes with up to 150 fps
- The module size can be as small as 2x2 pixel
- Code detection and reading is not affected by the code shape and size
- The orientation of the code or by the background type (dark-on-bright or bright-on-dark)
- Mirrored codes are reliably identified and read
- Just as special code types, such as nailed or dotted codes
- Reading is not influenced by a covered "L" corner or a partially destroyed "L" pattern of the Data Matrix code.
All this without any need of specific parameter settings.

It features three operation modes:
- The "Auto Mode" requires no configuration efforts
- The "Teach-In Mode" allows users to read in one code sample whose parameters are stored in a list, and
- The "Parameter Adjustment Mode" allows for manual adjustment of parameters to improve performance

The VC Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Library
Description
In many domains of monitoring, inspection and control, reading a sequence of characters for verification or recognitionis an essential part of a final examination.Most often this problem can be reduced to the recognition of a smallsubset of a font especially constructed for the discrimination task. The VCOCR package contains all the functions for the teaching and verification of printed or otherwise uniformly produced characters.
Features and advantages:
- nearly arbitrary fonts (can be recognised)
- recognition can be done scale and rotation invariant
- detection and recognition of not connected characters (umlaut, tilde, ... )
- calculation of best, second and third best match (output of quality value)
- fast recognition (less than 20 msec on a VC4038/E at character size 20x32)
- easy adding further characters with re-teach tool
- all operations can be performed on the camera
- easy to use
- only few (3) essential parameters

The operating system VCRT
New operating system for Smart Cameras: VCRT 5.27
Features of VCRT:
- Own and purpose developed real-time operating system.
- VCRT is built for industrial application due to a special file system: to shut down = to switch off.
- Continuous development and integration of customer needs.
- VCRT uses no unnecessary CPU capacity, it is multitasking (task switching times about 1 msec) and supports the modern communication protocols as TCP/ IP, Telnet, ftp, http, etc., as well as sockets.
Further features: many upgrades such as
- Improved read and write performance on SD memory cards (up to five times faster than before)
- Higher upload speed for the FTP server
- Faster timing for the TCP/IP stack
- Speed-optimized memory allocation
- Automatic event connection and
- Increased number of events (64 instead of 32).
Furthermore, Vision Components has implemented DNS (Domain Name System) support, new Hardware Timer 2 macros (with a resolution down to the 100 µs level), new shell commands and system variables. Additionally, the display can be switched off in VCProfessional Smart Cameras and emulator debugging is now also possible with relocatable programs.
