New documentation for Smart Camera Operating System released
As of January 2007, a up to date detailed manual of Vision Components® real-time camera operating system VCRT 5.xx is available to customers and users. It documents all proven VCRT features as well as new functions added to the 5.25 version, such as the Beckhoff LIB program library which enables users to connect Beckhoff modules via Ethernet, thereby extending the camera's digital I/O's. Further new features include extended I/O functions and shell commands, a module directory, an event system management and relocatable codes. Registered users are invited to download the VCRT manual and a separate documentation of all TCP/IP functions in the Support Section of www.vision-components.com.

Smart Camera controls fossball goalkeeper
We have received a large number of inquiries about the foosball demo unit we presented at last year's VISION trade fair. The following text is a brief description of the set-up.
At last year's VISION trade show, Vision Components® showcased the capabili-ties of Smart Cameras by means of a foosball competition which attracted many visitors. A modified foosball table with only two goalkeepers was employed, one of which could be used to aim at the opposite goal. By means of a special pro-gram, an intelligent VC4038E camera monitored the movements of the ball and calculated the optimal position for the opposite goalkeeper. Data was then transferred to an ECOSTEP motor from Jenaer Antriebstechnik and a positioning system from Bahr Modultechnik, which ensured the goalkeeper's mobility. The camera-controlled system turned out to have very fast reactions: There was a rush of people trying to score, but only few succeeded.
