Fully Automatic Greenhouse Systems |
|
 |
Task:
The Holland-based Sedeco Vision Components have developed an inspection system which is able to fully automatically sort coconut palms according to size and quality. The technology has seen real application at gardening centres. Inspection is able to look at the growth process starting from germinating buds to approx. 1 ½ m high plants. The inspection system is based on a VC2065/EC camera, which, in addition, is also able to register plants that have become ill.

The solution:
During the growing process, the coconut-palms are inspected at regular intervals. During this analysis, the plants find themselves on a conveyer belt where a Smart Camera takes height measurements. Based on these results, the plants are delegated into groups, according to size; under-developed plants are sent back to the green house, whereas ill plants, on account of their differing leaf colour, are recognised and eliminated. Comparatively slow growing plants are also recognised, and if necessary, sorted out.
Advantages:
The fully automatic inspection system can quickly establish whether the germinating process has been successful and also the plants’ state of health. Unsuitable specimens are quickly recognised and removed from the process. The automatic segregation of plants according to size eliminates the laborious task of manually measuring the plants for pre-sale. This results in an improved product quality and reduced personal costs.
