Michael Engel, founder and CEO of Vision Components®, is regarded as a pioneer of industrial image processing and was the first to develop an intelligent camera suitable for industrial use. Because of his experience in the industry, he is fully conversant with the demands made on a camera of this type.
At the start of the eighties, this graduate physicist made a conscious decision in favour of a specialist field with a future: image processing was already supported at the time. After working on acquiring the necessary tools of the trade in a university research fellowship, he started his own business in 1983 with a highly promising business idea. Its aim was to support the production steps in industrial production processes with state-of-the-art image processing, ranging from customised problem solutions to integration into turnkey installations. This made him one of the few in the select group of companies active in this field.
