Vision Components at CVPR: VC EvoCam with Onboard Edge AI Processor and new MIPI Cameras with up to 24.5 Megapixels

Following its successful US premiere at the Embedded Vision Summit, Vision Components is set to showcase its all-in-one intelligent board-level camera VC EvoCam at the Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) from June 3 to 7, in Denver, Colorado. Measuring just 65 x 40 mm, this tiny smart camera integrates a MediaTek Genio 510 Edge AI processor and all components for image acquisition and image processing. The VC EvoCam is configurable with numerous image sensors and can be individually adapted using interface boards. Further highlights for Computer Vision and AI applications include the new 24.5 megapixel VC MIPI IMX540 Camera with Sony Pregius S global shutter sensor and the VC MIPI AR2020, VC’s first MIPI camera with Onsemi image sensor.

All-in-one camera with MediaTek Genio 510 processor

The VCSBC EvoCam can be configured with an onboard image sensor or with one or two cable-connected remote-head cameras. Image sensors from the VC MIPI Camera portfolio are available for this purpose; the first VC EvoCam is equipped with the Sony IMX900 image sensor featuring 3.2 MP resolution and global shutter. The MediaTek Genio 510 Edge AI processor is integrated for direct image processing. It features two ARM Cortex-A78 and four ARM Cortex-A55 cores, an ARM Mali GPU, and an NPU with a performance of 3.2 TOPS. Up to 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of flash memory, and expandability via SD 3.0 enable the processing and storage of extensive image data. The VC EvoCam is supplied with a customized Debian Linux operating system. Common image processing functions are directly supported and included as demo applications.

For integration into devices and applications, the VC EvoCam features a 100-pin board-to-board connector. Signals for interfaces and processor functionalities are made available here, including I/Os, I²C, USB, Ethernet, Video DSI, and PCIe. At the start of volume production in Q3, 2026, a minimalist interface board will be available, featuring power supply, I/Os for trigger and flash, as well as USB and RJ45/LAN. A more extensive interface board will follow shortly as a development kit and for prototyping, routing all connector signals to physical interfaces. Vision Components supports customers in the development of individual interface boards as well as the design-in of the VC EvoCam.

VC MIPI IMX540: global shutter MIPI CSI-2 camera with 24.5 megapixel resolution

Also new is the VC MIPI IMX540 MIPI camera with global shutter. Its image sensor from Sony's Pregius S series in a 1.2" format and with a pixel size of 2.74 µm delivers a resolution of 24.5 megapixels (5,328 x 4,608 pixels), at 22 fps, 8-bit mode. The camera features high sensitivity and is suitable for AI applications such as humanoid robots and detection of objects and people, as well as for universal applications in Machine Vision.

VC MIPI AR2020: high-performance MIPI camera for Edge AI

Another addition to the VC MIPI Camera portfolio is VC MIPI AR2020, with the AR2020 image sensor from Onsemi's Hyperlux LP family. With a 20-megapixel resolution, high sensitivity extending into the NIR range, and low power consumption, the rolling shutter sensor is ideally suited for applications such as Edge AI and IoT. It captures images in a full resolution of 5,120 x 3,840 pixels at up to 24 frames/second in 10-bit capture mode. The camera is available as a monochrome or color sensor.

As with all VC MIPI Cameras with over 50 available image sensors, the manufacturer provides free source code drivers. With the VC MIPI Bricks System, the company offers comprehensive accessories for prototyping and series integration – ranging from matching cables, optionally as micro-coax and GMSL2 for cable lengths up to 10 meters, and FPGA accelerators for integration directly into the MIPI data stream, all the way to customized MIPI cameras including optics and calibration.

In 2026, Vision Components celebrates its 30th anniversary and the invention of the first industrial-grade smart camera by company founder Michael Engel in 1996. The VC EvoCam now marks another milestone, featuring the high computing power of the MediaTek processor, universal applicability for numerous applications, and a freely programmable Linux operating system for easy and fast integration.
